All we know that children don't work nowadays. Their parents or other adults take care of them. But earlier in history, it was quite normal. Let's examine this situation. In Russia in 1882 there was the law which forbade children's labour up to twelve years. From 12-15 age there was the limitation for work time only eight hours a day and ban for night work. Also there was ban for children's work at the unhealthy manufactures. What could children do? They were allowed to make spoons, cane baskets, painting of wooden dishes. In England that time there was the beginning of the machine manufactures. They displaced hand labour. Every new machine was to take away "bread" from the workers, especially from poor people's children. Those machines were simple so women and children could work on them. But the manufacturers noticed that they could exploit children more profitable than adults. They could pay less and children couldn't defend their interests. Even children of five, six and seven ages had to work at the factories. Beside this, they were to pay fines for some rest or talk to neighbour.
Interesting, but these are true facts. I wonder, if modern children could work in such conditions?
One dark winter night. I was alone in an old house. It was a long way from other houses, and there was no telephone. At first I wasn't afraid, because I don't believe in ghosts. But at midnight I heard a sudden noise...
It was like a very strong cat's scratch. At the beginning it wasn't very annoying but eventually it started to be louder and louder. I could'nt understand anything: neither where the source of the noise was located nor what could it be. Some minutes later it stopped. I sighed with relief and continued working.
But at the midnight a noise could be heard again. Then I was really scared. I took a small flashlight and stepped out my room. Oh God, why didn't I stay in a warm safe room?.. In the mirror ehind me I saw a ghost of a young tall woman. She was wearing green dress and her face was too sad even for a ghost. She disappeared without saying anything, but I can take an oath that she was singing a sorry song in a quiet voice.
This song has been haunting me from that night. It was a ballad written by Ann Boleyn, the queen of England beheaded in 1536. Her greensleeves, sung by Henry The Eight, are still in my memory.
And the house I stayed was the patrimony of Boleyns, called Heever Castle. It was built many centuries ago, even before Ann Boleyn's grandfather got it. And her "guiltless ghost" still appears in the place of birth.

Once upon a time Ivan lived. He was stupid. He was poor. He couldn’t do anything. Ivan wanted to be clever and rich and popular, but didn’t want to do anything. He decided to go to school. He said”the teachers will make me clever!” He went to school. He went to school every day. He didn't miss any lesson. But he didn’t want to do exercises and he didn’t want to read and learn and even to listen to the teacher. He only sat or slept or did nothing. A month had past. All pupils wrote a test. Ivan wrote too. Then the teacher checked his test and said that this result was poor. Ivan was very surprised! “How it can be! I went to school every day! Why am I NOT clever!” “But you didn’t anything!” answered the teacher. The moral: “no pains, no gains” If you want to be clever you must not be lazy. The school and teachers will help you but you must do something
Olympics for me is a competition of the best athletes in the world, every time I watch them on TV. The Olympic games began centuries ago in Ancient Greece. Called the Olympic games after mount Olympus and of the city, where they were held - Olympia.
The first competition was on the run. When carried out the Olympic games were suspended even the wars. All the Greeks gathered for the Olympic games. First, it was attended only by men, to watch the games from the stands, too, could only be men. I love to watch the Olympic games and guess the winner.
