Подростки проводят много времени в своих комнатах (спальнях), "зависая" там с друзьями, но среднестатистическая комната подростка за последние несколько лет сильно изменилась. До недавнего времени в спальнях у подростков были плюшевые мишки, куклы, спортивные снаряды, кассетные магнитофоны, настольные игры и иногда радио. Сегодня традиционные игрушки почти полностью исчезли, их место заняли популярные нововведения, такие как mp3-плееры и игровые приставки. Недавний опрос показал, что у 7 из 10 британских тинейджеров в комнате есть телевизор, а у 6 из 10 - игровая приставка. Более чем у половины детей есть DVD-плеер или аудиосистема; а примерно у каждого третьего есть цифровой музыкальный (mp3-) плеер или компьютер; у 10% подростков в комнате есть цифровое телевидение.
Так что нет ничего удивительного в тои, что стоимость устройств (гаджетов), находящихся в комнатах детей, примерно у трети из них достигает 2000 фунтов! Как же они платят за всё это? Ну, 9 из 10 подростков получают эти высокотехнологичные товары в качестве подарков на Рождество или День рождения, в то время как остальные копят карманные деньги или устраиваются на работу.
Возможно, некоторые родители будут шокированы, узнав, что их сын или дочь спит на "золотой жиле". Было бы вполне справедливо утверждать, что с ростом новых технологий растёт и стоимость спален подростков.
