По информации «Энциклопедии Забайкалья», Николай Муравьёв-Амурский(1809—1881 годы жизни) — российский государственный деятель, с 1847 по 1861 год служил иркутским и енисейским губернатором, генерал-губернатором Восточной Сибири. Содействовал изучению и освоению Забайкалья как плацдарма для приобретения амурских территорий. По его настоянию учреждена Забайкальская область с центром в Чите (1851). Подписал Айгунский договор (1858), утвердивший госграницу России с Китаем по Амуру, за что получил титул графа Амурского. Его именем до революции называлась улица(Муравьёвская) в Чите.
