The town of Votkinsk is located near Izhevsk on the bank of a huge artificial pond that arose at the confluence of three rivers, namely Votka, Berezovka and Sharkan. His appearance is due to the decree of Empress Elizabeth Petrovna from 1757 on the construction of iron works on the river Votka. And the official date of birth of the city is September 21, 1759, when the plant began to work and produce the first products. From the very first days of his existence, he was entrusted with the most important state orders. The art of the craftsmen who worked at the factory was famous for the whole of Russia, they were executed by the tsar's order the spire of the Peter and Paul Church. Subsequently, the Votkinsky plant was one of the first in Russia to produce locomotives. In the post-revolutionary period, industrial production in the city intensively developed, old enterprises expanded, new ones were built. This process was interrupted by the war, the products of the plant are completely transferred to military rails. In the post-war period, the Votkinsk plant began a period of rocketry.
For a long time Votkinsk was a working settlement, and on August 20, 1935 became the city of the Kirov subordination, since 1937 it became a member of the Udmurt ASSR. At this stage, Votkinsk is the administrative center of the Votkinsky district as part of the Udmurt Republic.
